Special food products are registered in the Republic of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Law “On Ensuring the Safety and Quality of Food Products”. New types of food products, materials for packaging food products produced in Turkmenistan, as well as food products, materials for packaging food products imported into Turkmenistan are subject to state registration. 

The competent authority responsible for the registration of the food supplements is the State Registration Center for Medicinal Products and State Quality Control of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.

State registration of food products includes:

• expert evaluation of documents submitted by the manufacturer (supplier) of food products and assessment of compliance with the requirements of regulatory documents, the conditions of manufacture or supply of food products;
• expert evaluation based on the results of testing the quality and safety of food products carried out if necessary;
• entering food products allowed for manufacture on the territory of Turkmenistan or import into the territory of Turkmenistan, as well as their manufacturers (suppliers) into the State Register;
• issuing of the state registration certificate of a food product, giving the right to produce it in Turkmenistan or import into the territory of Turkmenistan and circulation.

State registration of food products, materials and products first imported into Turkmenistan is carried out based on the documents of the manufacturer and the authorized state body of the exporting country, confirming the quality and safety of these products, which are provided by their supplier.

If it is necessary to conduct an appropriate expert evaluation of food products, materials and products first imported into the territory of Turkmenistan, the supplier submits their samples and regulatory and technical documents, the results of laboratory tests (trials) indicating the norms and actual content of substances, official confirmation of the manufacturer about the presence or absence of genetically modified sources (organisms), certificate of conformity of the country of origin and other necessary information.
